About Us
We are located in a suburban area of Northern California (East Bay Area near Walnut Creek) and have been in San Ramon for almost 33 years. Our prior experience of owning a cattery business gave us an unusual background to commence a Standard Schnauzer showing and breeding business. In 1975, we started breeding Silver Persians and became successful in our breeding and showing cattery business with Grand Champion Sanskrit Lil’ Big Man. After 11 years of breeding and showing, we ended our cattery business due to a family member having allergies to our cats. However, due to our love for animals, we decided that we still wanted to have a family pet and decided that we wanted a dog.
We searched for a dog breed that would be great with our children as well as a good fit with allergies in the family. We discovered that the Standard Schnauzer not only has no dog odor, but also has little or no shedding of its fur. In 1990, we acquired a female (bitch) Standard Schnauzer and learned that this breed is an excellent dog to incorporate into a family with children. Also, we taught our children to handle the dog with kindness, care, and love as well as care for it. Our family enjoyed our Standard Schnauzer for many years.
After the wonderful experience of owning a Standard Schnauzer combined with successfully breeding Silver Persians, we decided to commence the challenging task of breeding and showing Standard Schnauzers. After acquiring GCH Blackhawk Brie de Provence at 10 weeks of age, we found Brie to be a very sweet tempered, loving, loyal, and devoted family dog. She became a big part of our lives and at four months of age, we started taking her to handling classes and training her for the show ring.
Little did we know that this was just the beginning of a new life for us. We were hooked on showing Brie especially when she won her first Best of Breed at 9 months of age before she became a champion at 11 months of age. In the same year, Brie won a Group 3 at 17 months of age in November 2009. By invitation only, Brie attended the 2010 Eukanuba National Dog Show and won Best Opposite Sex in her breed at 2-1/2 years of age. Also in 2010, she won seven Best of Breeds and two Group 2's in the Working Group during her 2010 show season (see our Specialty Dogs link for Brie's additional specialty wins). Brie has followed in her dam's footsteps (Ch. Charisma Jackie-O) with an excellent show record. We hope that Brie, too, will be invited some day to Westminster to compete like her dam, Jackie-O, who won at Westminster Kennel Club with Best of Opposite in 2005 and Award of Merit in 2006.
Our primary goal of Castlewood Standard Schnauzers is to improve the Standard Schnauzer breed, keep its sweet temperament, and to find ideal families who would enjoy the breed as much as we do. We are hopeful that our future new puppy owners will also have the desire to show their puppies. We are extremely excited to announce that we have bred Brie on December 2, 2011 to GCH Shalimars Golden Ticket or "Charlie" (see our Litters Link for more details of Brie and Charlie, and the PUPPY PEDIGREE).
